It is a tough 2 days without school, although i didn't come to school for 2 day but i know what is happening in school, i heard from my friend Daphne, that they had a one hour recess,
they had played a lot of game, try different kinds of food, i really wished that i was there.
i think racial harmony mean all the different races of people gathering around and play, try out the different thing, a boy name Jonathan came to our class, he is from Hong Kong,he will be here for 2 weeks, Mrs Azhar didn't come because she went on course.i like the part where everybody like the most, that is all i got to say, bye.


Bowling tourament

This 7 inter-school bowling championship, our tournament is on the 2, 9 and 14 July.
On the 2 July , it is the singles event, i did quite bad on the first 3 game, it is only 406 pin fall, Qien is like a pro, almost 200 every game. Daphne was good too, on the last frame, while everyone was cheering for me, i got a spare and a strike. i got 20Th in the singles event.
Daphne got 7th and Cheryl got 11th. in the doubles, i partner Yi jing from 5.3,
we got 14 in the doubles and Daphne and cheryl got 3rd. i am so happy for them qien and a boy name Yong ping got 1st, Yong ping is just p4. the team event we got 6th
overall, i got 27th, Daphne got 5th and Cheryl got 25th.
i am so happy that Daphne and qien went in to master. i will congratulations them first,

National Day Parade 2008 (NDP 2008)

It was a great day at Marina Bay, we went there to see National Day Parade. we went there at 3.35pm, we reach school by 2. Mr Leong told us what are we supposed to do and what we are not supposed to do, sing some national day song . we took our fun pack before we went up the bus.in the fun pack we have a packet of tidbits, two packet of packet drink, one book of voucher, one piece of tattoo, one small Singapore flag, one information book about the show, a trash bag, a bottle of new water, a packet of sweet, a hamburger and apple pie for dinner, a kids company magazine all these in one gig hard cardboard bag.we took a lot of pictures,i like the black knights performance, especially when they were performing the making a heart shape. i enjoyed this day very much. i will never forget about this day. Victoria gave me her tattoo, i put on my both cheeks. ms Jumi follow us, cheryl, daphne and me had dinner at 6. the hamburger was black pepper chicken. i don't like the apple pie because it does not taste good, there were four girls doing the malay dance, the teachers were taking our pictures, we do the kallang wave, it was very fun. i hope to go again. we went home at around 11 there was a traffic jam near our school as the parent that are waiting around the school half the road. that is all i got say.

the causes of earthquake are because is that earthquakes are caused by faulting, a sudden lateral or vertical movement of rock along a rupture (break) surface. Here's the longer answer: The surface of the Earth is in continuous slow motion. This is plate tectonics--the motion of immense rigid plates at the surface of the Earth in response to flow of rock within the Earth. The plates cover the entire surface of the globe. Since they are all moving they rub against each other in some places (like the San Andreas Fault in California), sink beneath each other in others (like the Peru-Chile Trench along the western border of South America), or spread apart from each other (like the Mid-Atlantic Ridge). At such places the motion isn't smooth--the plates are stuck together at the edges but the rest of each plate is continuing to move, so the rocks along the edges are distorted (what we call "strain"). As the motion continues, the strain builds up to the point where the rock cannot withstand any more bending. With a lurch, the rock breaks and the two sides move. Elizabeth Cochran sensed an opportunity to save lives when she realized laptops can be used as seismometers to detect earthquakes.
Many laptops have an accelerometer, a sensor that detects motion and free fall, and that can be used to detect the intensity of earthquakes when a laptop shakes, said Cochran, a seismologist and assistant professor at the department of earth sciences at the University of California, Irvine.
Cochran, along with other scientists, is working on the Quake-Catcher Network (QCN), a project that harnesses seismic data from sensors on Internet-connected laptops in different locations to help capture earthquakes. When the laptop isn't being used, special software on laptops collects sensor data, which along with the laptop's location, is sent over the Internet to an earthquake data repository where the data is analyzed.
Amassing sensor data from thousands of Internet-connected laptops could determine an earthquake's intensity and its exact location, which could be helpful for first responders in relief efforts, Cochran said. It could also help examine quake trends over time at different locations.
The goal is to create a dense seismic network for scientific study and to measure how shaking gets concentrated, Cochran said. The data will also be a resource for first responders to identify the exact location of an earthquake for rapid relief. Currently the network has 300 people signed up, but Cochran hopes to sign up more participants in different locations.
"If you donate laptop time for your network, you will be donating to somebody 20 miles away from the network. They will help you back in the future," Cochran said.
The project will also fill the gap between seismic stations to check for earthquake activity, Cochran said. In Southern California there are 350 instruments collecting seismometers, but there is a significant distance between them and those gaps need to be filled, she said. The seismometers are expensive, so linking laptops is an inexpensive way to provide instant information on earthquakes in designated areas.
The client-based software used on laptops, called BOINC, is available as a free download on QCN's Web site. It works only with Mac OS systems but will soon be available for Windows, Cochran said.
The software isn't a burden on laptops -- it takes up small system resources and a small amount of hard drive space, Cochran said. "We use just a few percent of the processing capabilities of the laptop to read the sensor data and determine if the signal is outside of the norm," Cochran said.
The project is just starting off and working through small kinks to make the earthquake readings more accurate.
The software determines a laptop's location based on Internet Protocol (IP) addresses, but that isn't always accurate as the location and sensor readings may not match up. BOINC provides a Google interface where a user can specify the laptop's location, to which the IP address is then linked. "We know there will be some locations that are different from what the IP address suggests. From user response we hope to improve," Cochran said.
False alerts on an earthquake are also a possibility as laptops are constantly on shaking, but the network monitors the signal for a few minutes or days before acting on it, Cochran said.
In general, earthquakes are hard to predict, but Cochran hopes the data collected through the effort is reliable enough to make it an early warning system. Cochran and the scientists have also requested funding from the National Science Foundation to develop the QCN infrastructure as a scientific and education tool.
The client-side software used by QCN is the same as the software used by SETI (Search for Extraterrestrial Intelligence), another distributed computing effort that harnesses the power of thousands of computers searching for different life forms in the universe by analyzing radio telescope data.
"Distributed computing projects are easy to do, [I] saw you could use these computers to [collect] earthquake data," Cochran said.Earthquakes have occur in many places.Some of the most serious ones are in China,Indonasia,USA,Japan and many more.These countries have earthquakes because underneath them there are volcanoes and they erupt,countries would began to shake.There would not be any earthquakes in Singapore because there is no volcanoes under us.
